Gary and Winnie McPherson made the decision over 30 years ago to run a pro-staff store that aims to please, which probably explains why they've been hitting the bulls-eye consistently since opening The Outdoorsman Sport Shop on April 1, 1976.

When it first opened on SR 135 south of Indianapolis, The Outdoorsman Sport Shop was a modest bait and tackle shop begun on a shoestring budget. “We borrowed $1500 to purchase our initial inventory, and I remember thinking, ‘How in the world are we going to pay this back?’” Gary recalls with a laugh.

But the couple’s hard work and entrepreneurial instincts were right on target. By providing excellent service and product knowledge in the early years, they laid the foundation for years of consistent product growth, building expansion and customer recognition as central Indiana’s premier sportsman shop.

Today, entering their second quarter century of business, The Outdoorsman Sport Shop offers 8000 square feet of display space, a second-story 30 yard/23 lane archery range complete with a DART simulation system and shooting leagues, a fully stocked gun, archery, and fishing department, a deer weighing station, and a trained staff of pro-staff employees that both know AND use products the store offers it’s growing base of customers.
